About Operation Color

When my husband and I purchased our 50’s era home, we were on a budget and had little time to devote to home improvements. With young children and a hectic schedule, I was feeling overwhelmed making our “new” house into a home.

I decided to hire an interior designer for ideas to rejuvenate the space until we could eventually remodel. The morning of the appointment, the designer called and said she couldn’t find our house, even though I had given her clear directions. When she eventually arrived, she gave me a few quick “fixes” that I had already considered. Later that week, I received her invoice for two hours of design time—she charged me an extra hour for driving time and while she was lost.

After that lackluster experience, I decided I would make the time and effort to tackle this interim project and an eventual remodel with determination, courage and a hefty dose of creative moxie! My career background was in the fashion, gift and textile industries, along with experience in visual display. I also really enjoyed arts, crafts, designing & sewing clothing and interior projects such as quilts, home accessories and window coverings so I felt confident, with trial & error, I could make our home look great while on a budget.

With many friends complimenting our home remodel and requesting design advice, I enrolled and completed an ASID & NKBD accredited college program to earn professional Interior Design credentials.

Operation Color started out initially as a full service interior design business. While I enjoy coordinating project management, over the years, I realized that many clients just needed advice on arrangement and editing of furnishings, lighting, color and finish updates and how to tie it all together. The fastest most affordable way to accomplish this is using color!

Selecting colors that enhance a room and existing possessions with design suggestions for rearrangement, editing, display, accessory & furniture purchases and the creation of “focal points” can make a boring room have a dramatic impact for a fraction of the cost of buying all new furniture and an expensive remodel.

Many projects really require more custom work and project management but with a smaller budget, a color consultation combined with creative design recommendations can easily rejuvenate things and is perhaps all that is needed to give a space pizzaz! Operation Color – creative color consultation “to the rescue” was born!
